Summary/Objective:
The Lead Expeditor is responsible for managing and expediting the flow of materials, equipment, and services to ensure alignment with project schedules, customer commitments, and business objectives. This role proactively monitors supplier performance, order status, production schedules, and logistics activities to ensure the on-time delivery of major equipment, critical-path items, and other project materials. The Lead Expeditor serves as the primary liaison between suppliers, carriers, customers, and internal stakeholders, driving issue resolution, mitigating supply chain risks, coordinating receiving activities, and ensuring timely closure of all order-related follow-up actions.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Proactively monitor and expedite purchase orders with assigned suppliers and affiliated business units to ensure materials, equipment, and services are delivered in accordance with project and customer requirements. 
  • Maintain regular communication with vendors, manufacturers, freight carriers, and internal stakeholders to identify potential delays, resolve issues, and ensure on-time delivery performance. 
  • Coordinate shipping, logistics, and transportation activities, including shipment tracking, escalation of late orders, and implementation of corrective actions to mitigate supply chain disruptions. 
  • Investigate and resolve order, shipment, and delivery discrepancies by collaborating with suppliers, customers, and internal teams to maintain service excellence. 
  • Develop and maintain supplier performance metrics, providing timely status updates, risk assessments, and recovery plans for critical orders. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned supplier relationships, fostering accountability, communication, and continuous improvement in delivery performance. 
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Competencies:
  • Advanced computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite with strong emphasis on Excel; experience with ERP systems and other business software applications preferred. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with suppliers, customers, carriers, and internal stakeholders. 
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with suppliers and cross-functional teams while influencing outcomes and driving accountability. 
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency and follow-through to ensure critical orders and project milestones are achieved on schedule.
 
Supervisory Responsibility:
The Lead Expeditor position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
 
Working conditions:
Work Environment:
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, and standard warehouse equipment such as hand trucks, box cutters, tape dispensers, forklifts and log lifter
 
Physical Demands:
This role requires frequent communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders through in-person conversations, telephone calls, video conferencing, and other digital communication platforms.
 
This position is primarily sedentary and involves extended periods of sitting and computer use. The employee may occasionally be required to stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop, and lift or move office materials and documents. Periodic filing and record management activities may require opening file cabinets, accessing materials stored at various heights, and lifting items weighing up to 20 pounds
 
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, time TBD. The employee must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Due to the nature of the role, occasional evening, weekend, or extended hours may be required to meet business, customer, or project demands. This position may require travel of up to 10% to visit supplier locations, company facilities, customer sites, industry events, or other business-related functions as needed.
 
Education and Experience:
  • One or more years of prior warehouse experience.
  • Forklift certified preferred but not required.
  • High School diploma required.
